Loi Krathong Festival

In den letzten 2 Noveberwochen fand das alljährliche "Loi Krathong" Festival statt.
Während dieser Zeit lassen viele Menschen Laternen fliegen, Boote aus Bananenblättern auf dem Fluß schwimmen und zünden tausende Raketen und Böller. Da wir ja quasi direkt am Fluß wohnen hatten wir 2 Wochen lang immer halli galli vor der Tür. Die ganze Nacht lang, was macnhmal schon richtig nervig wurde.
Das Wort "loi" heißt auf deutsch "schweben" und ein "Krathong" ist entweder eine Laterne oder eben dieses Boot aus Bananenblättern. Beide werden mit dem Ziel losgelassen, dass sie die ganze schlechte Energie mitnehmen, die einen belastet. Zusätzlich wünscht man sich etwas.
Am 24. November sind alle Hausmitbewohner (da waren wir noch 9) mit ein paar anderen gemeinsam zu einem Uni-Geläne außerhalb der Stadt gefahren. Dort findet das größte Event zum Loi Krathong Festival in ganz Thailand statt: tausende Leute versammeln sich zu einer Mönch-Zeremonie und lassen anschließend gemeinsam Laternen los. Es war ein ziemlich atembereubendes Gefühl da mitten drin zu stehen!
Nach einer einzigen, riesigen Rakete war plötzlich der ganze Himmel voll mit riesigen Laternen! Einfach wunderschön :)
Die restliche Woche waren am Fluß entlang Bühnen aufgebaut, auf denen gesungen und getanz wurde,viel Essen wurde verkauft und es waren jeden abend tausende Menschen unterwegs.
Eine ziemlich spannende und laute Zeit war das hier.

During the last two weeks of November the "Loy Krathong" festival took place in Thailand.
During those two week many people release big lanterns, let banana leaf boats float and light bunches of fireworks. Since we live basically directliy on the river we hab a quite crazy time around here. All night long, which was sometimes really annoying.
The word "loy" means in English "to float" and a "krathong" is either a lantern or that banana leaf boat.  Both are released with the hope that they take away all bad energies from you. Also people make wishes when they let go of them.
On November 24th all my housemates and I met with some others and went to a university campus outside of the city. There the biggest Loy Krathong event in all Thailand takes place: thousands of people gather together for a monk ceremony and afterwards let go of their lanterns at the same time. It was a breathtaking feeling to be right in the middle of that!
After one big firework suddelny the whole sky was full with huge lanterns! It was wonderful :)
During the rest of the week many stages were set up along the river. Singers and dancers performed there, many more lanterns were released and every night thousands of people were on the streets.
It was an exciting and crazy time here.
But absolutely wonderful :)

Of course we had lanterns, too. So we sent them out in the world ful of good wishes :)

There were millions of lights and lanterns as decoration all over the city :) Beautiful!
